The Diamondbacks made a surprising salary dump on Saturday night, trading right-hander Bronson Arroyo to the Atlanta Braves to save $9.5 million but having to include highly regarded pitching prospect Touki Toussaint in the process.
In return, the Diamondbacks received versatile infielder Phil Gosselin, who is currently on the disabled list with a fractured thumb but owns a .282 career average in 70 big league games.
Arroyo, who has missed all of this season as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, is owed the remainder of his $9.5 million salary for this season. His contract also includes an $11 million option for 2016 or a $4.
