DENVER – Before reporters were permitted inside, the door to the visitors’ clubhouse briefly swung open late Friday night. Screams echoed from within. The Diamondbacks had scored an improbable victory in a wild game that was equal parts ugly and exhilarating. They did not seem to care about the ugly parts.
In a 10-9 win over the Colorado Rockies, the Diamondbacks blew a five-run lead, rallied to tie and reclaim the lead, then threatened to blow it again. In the end, they wound up with a piece of history.
At four hours, 30 minutes, this Coors Field special was the longest nine-inning National League game in history.
