His production – or lack thereof – might suggest outfielder Peter O’Brien’s latest stint with the Diamondbacks was a flop as he struggled to translate his prowess in Triple-A to the major-league level.
But the extended stay was far from meaningless.
The adversity revealed a blueprint of what O’Brien still needs to improve, progress he plans to strive for after he was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday – a move that opened up a spot for shortstop Nick Ahmed to return from the paternity-leave list.
“I definitely think I gained a lot of experience, being able to come up here and get 50, 60 ABs in the big leagues and kind of exploit those weaknesses I really need to work on,” O’Brien said.
