Manager Torey Lovullo collected his items, moved away from the top step and headed down the stairs, the first one to leave the dugout on Thursday night. The Diamondbacks had lost again because, well, of course, they did. It is all they do these days.
Their 5-4, 10-inning loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night was their 11th in a row. They have not won since May 15. They have lost 20 of 23 games and continue to watch their season sink deeper into the abyss.
As has been the case on many nights during this skid, their loss on Thursday was not one in which they were dominated in every phase.
