Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander David Hernandez finds himself in a unique and probably less-than-desirable position. He’s set to reach free agency at the end of this season, but after Tommy John surgery wiped out his 2014 campaign his earning potential is a big unknown.
He’ll be happy to get there — lasting the six years in the majors it takes to reach free agency is not something he takes for granted — but he knows how he pitches the rest of this year will greatly affect his market.
“It’s always in the back of your mind,” Hernandez said.
