PITTSBURGH -- The D-backs scored eight runs in the first three innings, thanks in part to homers by Ketel Marte and Alex Avila, as they cruised to a 9-3 win over the Pirates on Thursday night at PNC Park.
Marte capped a three-run first inning with a two-out, two-run homer off Pirates starter Chad Kuhl.
A two-run double by Jon Jay and an RBI single by Paul Goldschmidt in the second extended the D-backs' lead to 6-0.
Avila snapped out of a season-long slump in the third with a two-run homer that gave the D-backs an 8-0 lead and signaled the end of Kuhl's night.
