One night after the Mets came into Chase Field and shoved the D-Backs around the metaphorical playground, it was encouraging to see the team show infinitely better effort on both sides of the ball. Both Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly reiterated that the team looked flat for most of the game last night - possibly as a result of the extended three-city road trip that ended on Sunday. The team would have no issue finding its energy tonight though between an impressive starting pitching performance and their trademark pesky batting philosophy. It was a much-needed palate cleanser after the previous night’s beatdown could just as easily snowballed into something worse.
