This was certainly a game held within reach by pitching and defense, before Pavin Smith walked it off, delivering a two-run home-run, with one out in the ninth inning. Ryne Nelson recorded a new high with 7.2 innings of two-run ball, but there were a slew of great defensive plays all over the diamond by Arizona. We’ll get on to all of them in due course, but probably the most important came in the top of the ninth, as Christian Walker snared an errant throw across the diamond from Eugenio Suarez and swiped tagged the runner on their head.
