Curt Schilling likely on Baseball Hall of Fame ballot in 2022 despite pitcher's request

After coming up short for the Baseball Hall of Fame in his ninth and second-to-last year on the ballot, Curt Schilling requested that his name be taken off the ballot in 2021, writing that he would like his Hall of Fame fate to be in the hands of the Veterans' Committee.

It appears that his request will not be granted.

Jack O’Connell, the secretary and treasurer for the Baseball Writers Association of America, which conducts the voting for the Hall of Fame, said in a statement Wednesday that removing Schilling from the ballot now would violate the bylaws set by the BBWAA and Hall, since Schilling has easily received more than the 5% necessary to remain on the ballot.
