Cody Bellinger became the first Los Angeles Dodgers player to win the NL MVP award since Clayton Kershaw in 2014 on Thursday.
He was also the first Dodgers first positional player to take home the award since Kirk Gibson in 1988.
Bellinger also became the first National League or American League MVP to be born in Arizona or to attend an Arizona high school.
Bellinger was born in Scottsdale and went to Hamilton High School in Chandler.
Some players who went to an Arizona college have won the MVP award for baseball's regular season (ASU's Dustin Pedroia, Barry Bonds and Reggie Jackson), but none of them are from Arizona, giving the state some bragging rights.
