During camp earlier this month, the Diamondbacks held many of their workouts and intrasquad games with the Chase Field roof open in the late afternoons and early evenings. They did so even on days when the temperatures were in triple-digits.
They expect to do the same now that the season has begun, saying there likely will be more games than usual with the roof open, although that probably won’t happen in the immediate future given the extreme heat in the forecast.
“Our experiments show in some of the extreme heat, the area most impacted is the upper bowl,” Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall wrote in a text message.
