Picking on the Diamondbacks has been the criticism du jour of late but let’s take a seventh-inning stretch and applaud the trade of Brad Ziegler.
The team secured from the Boston Red Sox two decent prospects: infielder Luis Alejandro Basabe, 19, and starting pitcher Jose Almonte, 20.
The important part of this story is that Ziegler is a free agent after this season. The Diamondbacks have accepted that they’re going nowhere. This is basically a rent-a-reliever situation for Boston and there is a possibility Ziegler could return.
Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal tweeted that after informing Ziegler of the trade, the Diamondbacks told him they would be “interested in re-signing him as a free agent this off-season.
