The Diamondbacks are winning hearts and baseball games. In the process, they are stretching the boundaries of incredulity.
Entering Wednesday’s game, they were one of three teams in Major League Baseball with 50 or more wins. They were 7-1 in extra innings. They have posted 28 come-from-behind victories. And after Tuesday’s walkoff win against the Cardinals, they received the most improbable compliment in team history.
“We won the World Series in 2001,” team broadcaster Mark Grace said. “This (Diamondbacks) team is better.”
That seems ludicrous, especially for a team coming off a 93-loss season in 2016.
