BIckley: Someone will pay for D-Backs debacle

The image-conscious Diamondbacks are very good at public relations. By now, they’ve recognized the obvious:

Somebody has to go. Somebody has to pay.

My guess is the general manager and manager get fired. And the biggest mystery is whether the chief baseball officer follows them out the door on principle or loyalty.

The changes won’t start at the top, where President and CEO Derrick Hall recently agreed to an eight-year contract extension. The length of the deal is staggering, and speaks volumes about the internal perception of a shipwrecked season.

Hall is a great communicator, brilliant at crafting workplace culture and interfacing with the community.
