The World Series is an ambitious moniker for a contest between two American teams, for a sport that has lost much cultural significance over the past 30 years. That wasn’t the case on Wednesday, when much of the planet was captivated by an epic Game 7, when the Cubs ended a 108-year quest and Major League Baseball provided the kind of romance that no other sport can touch.

For one night, our country seemed united and happy, not divided and screaming at each other over politics.
