DENVER – Diamondbacks right-hander Zack Greinke walked out of manager Torey Lovullo’s office and into the visitors’ clubhouse with a smile on his face on Thursday morning. He then said, in his sheepish sort of way, “Breaking news, you guys.”
Greinke had made the All-Star team, chosen to replace Chicago Cubs left-hander Jon Lester, who won’t be available for Tuesday’s exhibition because he is scheduled to start on Sunday.
This is Greinke’s fifth All-Star selection. He said it’s also his most meaningful, for a variety of reasons. For one, he thinks his kids, sons Bode and Griffin, should be able to enjoy the experience.
