The Diamondbacks selected right-handed reliever Zach Pop in the Rule 5 draft, then promptly traded him to the Miami Marlins on Thursday. In return, the Diamondbacks will receive a player to be named later.
Pop, who was drafted out of the Baltimore Orioles system, underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2019. Prior to the surgery, he had a heavy, sinking fastball that sat in the mid-90s and touched 100 mph, according to reports.
Pop originally was drafted and signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who traded him to the Orioles as part of the Manny Machado trade in July 2018.
