Paul Goldschmidt is a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks no more.
The Diamondbacks on Wednesday traded Goldschmidt to the St. Louis Cardinals.
In exchance for Goldschmidt, the Diamondbacks will receiver pitcher Luke Weaver, catcher Carson Kelly and infielder Andrew Young, along with a competitive balance round draft pick.
Goldschmidt has spent all eight of his major league seasons in Arizona where he's hit .297 with 209 home runs and helped lead the Diamondbacks to the postseason three times, including a trip to the National League Championship Series in 2017.
Goldschmidt has been the Diamondbacks' best and most popular homegrown player in team history, but with just one year remaining on his contract and a rebuild on the horizon, Arizona has decided to cut ties with a fan favorite.
