The Diamondbacks took right-hander Zach Pop in the Rule 5 draft on Thursday morning, selecting a hard-throwing reliever with power stuff who has the potential to impact their bullpen in 2021.
Pop, who was drafted out of the Baltimore Orioles system, underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2019. Prior to the surgery, he had a heavy, sinking fastball that sat in the mid-90s and touched 100 mph, according to reports.
Pop was originally drafted and signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who traded him to the Orioles as part of the Manny Machado trade in July 2018.
