HOUSTON – Daniel Descalso’s deep fly ball in the fourth inning on Thursday hit off the wall in right-center field in the exact spot at Minute Maid Park where the outfield fence juts sharply outward.
Had it hit two feet to the left, Descalso would have jogged leisurely into second with a routine double. Instead, the ball angled away from Houston Astros center fielder Jake Marisnick and rolled along the warning track toward center field. It gave Descalso an inside-the-park homer. It gave the Diamondbacks a break.
The Diamondbacks won 4-0 and salvaged a split of a four-game series.
