MIAMI – Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo made a change at closer on Sunday, removing Greg Holland from the role in favor of what he described as a closer-by-committee setup based on matchups.
Lovullo said he will choose from a group that includes right-handers Yoan Lopez, Yoshihisa Hirano and Archie Bradley and left-hander Andrew Chafin when trying to piece together the final innings of games. He said he is open to the idea of someone claiming the role but doesn’t want to force the issue.
“I think in this case we’re going to keep it as fluid as possible until somebody … (takes) control of the situation,” Lovullo said.
