All things considered, Kyler Stout’s situation isn’t so bad. A minor-league pitcher in the Diamondbacks organization, Stout found a field near his home in Tulsa, Okla., where he can run and throw. He collected 135 pounds of loose weights from a friend’s house. Another friend lives nearby, a catcher to whom he can throw his bullpens.
“Not everything is perfect,” he said, “but I’m learning to adapt.”
Such is life for baseball players during a worldwide pandemic. Like everyone else, they do not know when, or if, they will be called back to participate in a second version of spring training.
