The Diamondbacks finished May in the only way that made sense. They were beaten, their offense shut down — this time, though, there was no shame in how it happened.
Overpowered by Jacob deGrom, the Diamondbacks fell, 6-2, to the New York Mets on Monday night. After a day’s reprieve, the Diamondbacks’ descent continued. They lost for the 14th time in their past 15 games and for the 23rd time in their past 27.
The performance closed out a month in which the Diamondbacks went 5-24. It was ugly, even by their standards. The past three seasons in which they have played baseball in May, the Diamondbacks have played it poorly.
