It had been an interesting spring training, ending in the D-backs going 15-15 across all their games, though there were some injuries to be concerned about. On the other hand, one of the most unexpected signings in franchise history, the team swooping in and stealing Jordan Montgomery away from all their competitors. That unexpected fillip strengthening the rotation (albeit with a bit of a waiting period) seemed to be the main factor stirring the pot in the result from fans, as they readied themselves to defend the NL pennant.
