Five days into baseball’s coronavirus shutdown, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo still hasn’t wrapped his mind around things.

“I feel like I’m playing hooky every day,” Lovullo said on a conference call Tuesday. “My heart knows where it’s supposed to be, but my head is saying we have a bigger cause and it’s right in front of us.”

The Diamondbacks’ spring training facility, Salt River Fields, remains open for major-league players who want to use it. Lovullo said he hasn’t been there the past two days – in addition to dealing with a minor eye infection, he spent Tuesday with his youngest son, who just had his tonsils removed – but he guessed that perhaps half of the players on the 40-man roster remain in town.
