The Diamondbacks have existed for years in a space in which expectations and reality rarely have intersected. The club’s brass is hoping that’s the case again this year.
“Obviously, there aren’t those expectations this year, which I think is good for everybody,” CEO Derrick Hall said. “And that’s sort of how we like to play -- always have in the past -- flying below the radar.”
On the morning of the club’s first full squad workout on Friday, Hall and Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick spoke to the team behind closed doors at Salt River Fields and then to reporters, answering questions in a sort of “state of the state” session.
