In the early days of spring training, Robert Van Scoyoc could be found at Salt River Fields either standing behind a batting cage, sequestered in the video room or sitting in the dugout alongside the hitting coaches. Wherever he was, he was likely doing the same thing: analyzing swings.
After years of gaining word-of-mouth notoriety around baseball as a vanguard of the swing-change revolution, Van Scoyoc was hired by the Diamondbacks in the offseason to fill a newly created role. He will be their hitting strategist.
Like every team, the Diamondbacks are in constant search of competitive advantages.
