The Diamondbacks placed catcher Alex Avila on the 10-day injured list with a strained left quad, manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday. The club recalled outfielder Tim Locastro from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.
Along with infielder Jake Lamb, Avila is the second left-handed hitter to join the IL this week. Lovullo said Avila suffered the injury when rounding the bases during a home run trot on Friday.
“It had been something that was brewing from the night before,” Lovullo said of the injury. “Alex hit the home run off (Eduardo) Nunez and was just gearing up to get to second base and when he saw it went over the fence he kind of geared down and felt it grab.
