The Diamondbacks have more critical decisions on their plate than just determining their starting middle infielders, finalizing their starting rotation, identifying their closer and figuring out who’s going to be at the wheel of those silly new bullpen carts they decided to revive from the 1970s.
Eventually, they’re going to have to formulate their final plans for their bench, too.
Right now, it’s complicated.
First, manager Torey Lovullo and General Manager Mike Hazen will need to decide if they are going to keep an extra arm in the bullpen to start the season and thereby go with four players on the bench instead of the usual five.
