Jared Porter reportedly is on the verge of becoming the next GM of the New York Mets, a development that will cost Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen one of his top lieutenants.
Porter has spent the past four years as one of Hazen’s assistant general managers. He previously worked with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs. One of Hazen’s top advisors, Porter’s primary role has been to oversee the club’s pro scouting department, but he also had a hand in other departments.
Porter reportedly was a finalist for the Los Angeles Angels’ GM vacancy last month and was viewed as a potential target for the Chicago Cubs, who are said to be looking for a high-ranking executive to work under Jed Hoyer following Theo Epstein’s departure.
