The Diamondbacks declined contract options for next year on a trio of right-handers -- starter Mike Leake and relievers Hector Rondon and Junior Guerra -- and left undecided the status on Merrill Kelly, the sort of non-decision that likely means his 2021 option eventually will be exercised.
The decision on Leake was the most obvious -- and one that had been anticipated since the Diamondbacks acquired him at the trade deadline in July 2019. His option for next year was valued at $18 million, but when they traded him to the Diamondbacks, the Seattle Mariners agreed to pay the $5 million buyout.
