The Diamondbacks added four players to their 40-man roster on Wednesday, all of whom General Manager Mike Hazen sees as being on the verge of helping the major league team as soon as next season.
By selecting the contracts of infielders Andy Young and Wyatt Mathisen and right-handers Riley Smith and Taylor Widener, the Diamondbacks protected each from being selected in next month’s Rule 5 draft.
“We think all four are going to have a chance to impact us someway, somehow next year,” Hazen said.
