The pitchers’ duel between Robbie Ray and Chase Anderson delivered exactly as expected. Anderson was a little shaky in the first, allowing Arizona to take the lead on a Jake Lamb groundout. But both pitchers then settled down. Neither allowed a run the rest of the way, combining for that one run over 12.2 innings with 20 strikeouts. Ray had 12 of those, although also had four walks and three hits, but got the outs when he needed them. Not helped by some shaky home-plate umpiring, he left with two outs in the seventh, having walked the final two batters faced.
