CINCINNATI – Alex Young hadn’t been throwing poorly in recent starts, but he hadn’t felt right, either. His curveball didn’t have the same bite, the action on his change-up wasn’t ideal. So Young went looking for answers. He found them on YouTube.
After watching video from his days pitching at Texas Christian, Young made a mechanical change this week, took it into his outing on Saturday and proceeded to dominate the Cincinnati Reds in one of the best outings ever by a Diamondbacks rookie pitcher.
In leading the Diamondbacks to a 2-0 win at Great American Ball Park, Young fired eight innings of two-hit ball and struck out 12, the most by a rookie in franchise history.
