Winning the National League pennant was certainly very nice at the time, make no mistake about it. But it does mean that for the MLB draft, which kicks off shortly, the D-backs will have a long time to wait before they get to make their pick. Reaching the World Series means their first pick won’t come until the 29th overall selection. The last time the team’s first pick was so low was in 2016. That year, they forfeited their first-round pick due to signing Zack Greinke. They did get a pick in Lottery Round A, using the 39th selection to pick outfielder Anfernee Grier.
