Tucson Roadrunners' Craig Cunningham had part of leg amputated

Coyotes minor-leaguer, Tucson Roadrunners captain Craig Cunningham, whose on-ice cardiac arrest and recovery made national headlines, had part of his left leg amputated Christmas Eve according to an ESPN story about Cunningham's latest medical issue.

Cunningham, who asked ESPN not to report the amputation initially, obviously won't play professional hockey again but he has an optimistic outlook.

"Every time I think about how I can't play anymore, I just think back to (the fact that) I'm lucky I'm not 10 feet under," Cunningham told ESPN.com. "If I have to sacrifice playing hockey to be alive — and it's a tough pill to swallow for sure, it's been my whole life since I was 4 years old — it's time for me to move on.
