BUFFALO, N.Y. – Only a week after last year’s draft wrapped, the Coyotes’ amateur staff began studying up on the 2016 batch of prospects.
Full-time scouts took in 180 to 200 games, sharing their findings in conference calls every few weeks and during meetings midway through the season and once the schedule ended to narrow their scope to approximately 70 or 80 players.
“We’re well-prepared,” said Tim Bernhardt, the team’s director of amateur scouting.
But researching who’s available isn’t the only work required.
