When the Coyotes acquired Phil Kessel from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Coyotes President of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Chayka had an interesting quote about acquiring a bona fide goal-scorer.
"I think you need to consistently outplay the other team to win," Chayka said, "but ultimately there's a scoreboard out there that counts the number of times the black puck goes over the line."
The quote was meant to justify why the Coyotes gave up Alex Galchenyuk and Pierre-Olivier Joseph (their 2018 first-round pick) to get Kessel, an aging winger.
