Sidney Crosby nears 1,000th point as Arizona Coyotes set to host Pittsburgh Penguins

Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby has lined up against the Coyotes only 13 times in his nearly 12-year career, but that’s been more than enough games to bank a few highlights.

There was the puck he backhanded in as he was falling in his first visit to the Valley on Jan. 27, 2007, a goal that still ranks among the most iconic ever scored at Gila River Arena. The then-19-year-old also had three assists in that 7-2 win.

“Those are fun ones,” Crosby said. “Backhand. I remember Wayne Gretzky was the coach. … Just having fun. They all count, but it’s nice when they go in like that.
