Nick Schmaltz scored twice for his fifth and sixth goals in six games, Scott Wedgewood stopped a career high 43 shots, and the Coyotes edged the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 Friday night at Gila River Arena.
Schmaltz re-directed Anton Stralman's shot into the net early in the third period, and the Coyotes made it stand. The game marked the Arizona debut of new forward Nick Ritchie, acquired in a trade with Toronto last Saturday.
Stralman got an assist in his 900th career game, and Shayne Gostisbehere reached the 250 mark in career points with a goal.
The Coyotes sealed the win when Clayton Keller fed Schmaltz for an empty-net goal with 31 seconds to play.
