The Tucson Roadrunners needed just one point on the night of their regular season finale to clinch a spot in the 2019 Calder Cup Playoffs. It didn’t happen. They finish the regular season with a 4-3 loss to the San Diego Gulls.
Despite a magnificent run down the stretch that brought Tucson’s chances from bleak to bright. Three regulation losses in the final four games of the season would prove to give Tucson the bitter end to the season it had hoped to avoid.
“It definitely stings,” captain Dakota Mermis said. “All of us definitely thought we’d be playing next weekend.
