The start of 2015 might have been disappointing for Coyotes captain Shane Doan as it signaled the beginning of a spiral down the standings into the worst full-length season he’s had to endure in his career, but the finish was certainly memorable.
He tied Dale Hawerchuk for the most goals in franchise history at 379 with a hat-trick effort Tuesday against the Blackhawks before shattering the record Thursday with Nos. 380 and 381 in a fitting win over the Winnipeg Jets.
The five-goal outburst positioned him as the team’s leading goal scorer (13) at the outset of a three-game, Western Canada road trip that starts Saturday with a matinee matchup against the Oilers.
