The Pittsburgh Penguins have selected forward Daniel Sprong with the 46th overall pick in the NHL Draft.
The 18-year-old Sprong had 39 goals and 49 assists for Charlottetown of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2014-15. Sprong added seven goals and four assists in the playoffs as Charlottetown won a postseason series for the first time since 2004.
Sprong is from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and was one of the fastest skaters in the junior ranks. The 6-foot, 180-pound Sprong is the first pick by the Penguins in this year's draft. Pittsburgh shipped its first-round pick to Edmonton in January for forward David Perron.
