Their losing streak looked almost certain to reach a record 12 games to start a season. But the Arizona Coyotes wouldn't fold, even when the Seattle Kraken scored twice in the first minute of Saturday's game.
Lawson Crouse scored the winner with 1:05 to play, his second goal of the night only 13 seconds after the Kraken had tied the game, and the Coyotes won a thriller, 5-4.
Scott Wedgewood, pressed into service just a minute into the game after starting goaltender Karel Vejmelka gave up goals on the only two shots he faced, stopped 26 shots in his first action since being claimed off waivers from the New Jersey Devils.
