The Coyotes don’t have many roster spots up for grabs during training camp, but one potential vacancy has been a source of much discussion over the first two days of on-ice practices at Gila River Arena.
Since defenseman Jakob Chychrun is still not skating with the team as he recovers from knee surgery, there will likely be an opening for an extra defenseman if Chychrun has not fully recovered before opening night.
Throughout the offseason, Chychrun has made rapid progress in his rehab, but the Coyotes are still cautious of pushing him too hard, too fast. After all, Chychrun had knee surgery prior to last season and wound up with another ACL tear when Michael Frolik of the Calgary Flames sent him into the end boards with a questionable hit in April.
