On Thursday, Gov. Doug Ducey lifted COVID-19 restrictions on Arizona businesses and events, which potentially would allow sporting events to increase capacity at their competitions.
The Arizona governor cited expanded vaccine distribution and declining case numbers in his surprise announcement, which prohibited, in most cases, the enforcement of local mask mandates, stripping cities and counties of their power to enforce mask mandates, except in government buildings or on public transportation.
He also said events drawing more than 50 people, such as youth sports tournaments and concerts, would no longer require governmental approval.
Ducey's order gives businesses and event organizers the option to continue requiring masks, social distancing and other preventive measures if they choose to do so.
