The Glendale City Council has voted 5-2 to end its agreement with the Arizona Coyotes, ending a 15-year, $225 million agreement that could potentially leave the team without an arena and the city without an ice hockey team.
Coyotes representatives had promised to take the matter to court if it passed.
Council members heard impassioned pleas from the public prior to a vote. An early motion to table the hearing for two weeks was defeated.
Voting in favor of terminating the agreement were Mayor Jerry Weiers, Vice Mayor Ian Hugh, Councilman Jamie Aldama, Councilwoman Lauren Tolmachoff and Councilman Bart Turner.
