Doan breaks franchise record in Coyotes' win over Jets

Hats rained down on the ice inside Gila River Arena Thursday with a minute remaining in the pregame warm-up to commemorate Coyotes captain Shane Doan’s hat-trick performance Tuesday, and the feat was certainly worth acknowledging a second time.

By achieving only the second three-goal game of his career late in a 7-5 loss to the Blackhawks, the 39-year-old tied Dale Hawerchuk for the most goals in team history at 379.

The gesture by the fans huddled around the boards was embraced by Doan as he selected a black cowboy hat, planted it on his head and raised his stick in appreciation before darting off the ice wearing his signature toothy grin.
