Coyotes snap road losing streak against Flames

CALGARY, Alberta – Coyotes center Boyd Gordon maintains a job description that occasionally plants him in situations where he interrupts the trajectory of pucks.

And despite the inherent risks, shot blocking seems to be a duty Gordon embraces.

Take for instance Friday’s game.

Gordon had been back in the lineup for not even a week after missing roughly a month with an upper-body injury he suffered after – go figure – blocking a shot with his hand.

But on a penalty kill in the second period against the Flames, there he was stopping a point shot with his feet before corralling the puck and feeding winger Jordan Martinook for a 2-on-1 break – a play Gordon finished by batting the puck past goalie Joni Ortio to give the Coyotes a short-handed goal after previously surrendering one.
