Coyotes' Smith progressing from muscle injury

Coyotes goalie Mike Smith continues to skate on his own as he recuperates from surgery on a core muscle injury, and it’s possible the netminder could join teammates in practice shortly after the All-Star break.

“That’s been talked about,” coach Dave Tippett said. “That’s just a matter of how he progresses.”

Smith is almost six weeks into his recovery, which was initially estimated as eight to 10 weeks. While the team is on the road for a two-game trip Monday and Tuesday, Smith is expected to skate in the Valley with goaltending coach Jon Elkin. The 33-year-old is also scheduled to get on the ice for a few days during the All-Star break.
